The Australian Department for the Environment and Energy has a fantastic initiative called the Green Land plan. They are driving towards a greener Australia by trying to promote cleanups of urban and natural areas. Whilst they often ask for volunteers to help remove waste, it can be difficult to volunteer if you have a full-time job and a family. Fortunately, many councils and private companies are improving their rubbish removal services, whether it be recycling trucks collecting garbage more frequently or skip bin hire companies offering a wider variety of sizes to accommodate different sized jobs.

Skip Bins

Skip bin hire is a great way to remove rubbish if you're undertaking a large renovation project at home. Skips come in all manner of sizes, depending on your needs, and are often sized by the number of black bin bags they can hold. Using skips really helps to drive the Green Land plan forward by ensuring that the waste is disposed of responsibly. Some waste requires special skips because of the type of material they contain. If this material is toxic, then a skip is required to protect the waste from rain, which can cause toxins to leak into the surrounding terrain. If you need help with hiring a skip, then any decent hire company will be able to offer advice about the size and type, whether you need to hire an additional lid and how many times it will need to be emptied. This is a great service in the fight against fly-tipping and helps to support a local company.

Recycling At Home

Recycling at home is another great way to support the Green Land plan, whilst assisting your local recycling centre. Recycling trucks and sorting centres are becoming an integral part of keeping Australia clean and more environmentally aware. Contact your local centre to find out where it's located so that you can recycle your old furniture and kitchen electronics quickly and easily. You could also help them to be able to sort quicker by organising your own recycling at home. Sorting the waste into separate bags (plastic, paper, glass, cans, organic waste) can make it a lot faster for the centres to sort. Savings within the council mean better services, which equate to a better environment. You could also consider donating old furniture to second-hand stores to provide an even longer life before the need for the recycling centre to step in.
